Aanand L Rai to make his OTT debut soon with a romance-drama, says ‘This year you can expect...’

Famous Indian filmmaker Aanand L Rai – who is best known for directing films Tanu Weds Manu Returns, Raanjhanaa, and more – is all set to enter the arena of OTT. He is presently working on a romance drama which is very likely to be released on a reputed OTT platform this year. While details of the project are not known yet, here is what we know so far.

In a conversation with the news agency PTI recently, Aanand expressed he is a child at heart and desires to learn something new every day. Even though he is over 50 years old, his energy and enthusiasm toward his professional life have not died down.

He said, “As a good student, I will learn first and then deliver. This year you can expect (the show) but I won't reveal much about it. All I can say is, I will be dealing with romance and drama.”

Underlining why he prefers to create a romantic-dramatic show and not a film, the filmmaker simply said, “Films are like a complete soul, and for a series, you need a big body. So, I now know the difference (between the two mediums) but knowing is not enough. I have to learn.”

While he appreciates the popularity of thrillers and mysteries on OTT platforms, he has a distinct vision. The news agency highlighted that he wants to create unconventional content that takes viewers on an unfamiliar journey on OTT platforms. To achieve this, he plans to develop his own projects, free from limitations.

Aanand L Rai, a renowned filmmaker from Delhi, has made a name for himself with his romantic comedy-dramas. His most acclaimed works include the Tanu Weds Manu series (2011 and 2015) and the romantic drama Raanjhanaa (2013). Rai later directed the high-budget romantic drama Zero (2018), the romantic fantasy comedy-drama Atrangi Re (2021), and the family comedy-drama Raksha Bandhan (2022).
