Mohanlal’s Aaraattu will be looking to continue Mollywood efforts, before the pandemic, to open up new markets for the industry. The makers of the film, which is made on a budget exceeding Rs 30 crore, have decided to release it in theatres solely, keeping in mind the potential of a Mohanlal-starrer to do well in theatres across the world as his previous releases Lucifer and Pulimurugan have proven.

As a sign of this, Aaraattu will be the first Mohanlal-starrer to get a release in Angola. As of now, the film will only have one screening and this could be increased depending on the interest shown by the Malayali audience in the Central African country.

Aaraattu, which is a ‘mass’ entertainer, has Mohanlal playing the role of Neyyattinkara Gopan. On Aaraattu's plot, the film’s director B Unnikrishnan told us that Gopan arrives at a village to make a deal for the residents. However, once the deal falls through, the villagers are left to take care of the ruckus that Gopan creates.

The movie, which is set to release worldwide on February 18, also has Shraddha Srinath, who plays a revenue divisional officer. Ramachandra Raju of KGF fame is the antagonist in the movie, which also has Johny Antony, Sidhique, Saikumar, Rachana Narayanankutty, Nedumudi Venu and Dhruvan as part of its cast.

Aaraattu is Mohanlal’s second theatrical release since the pandemic after Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham. While the number of shows is comparatively fewer than Marakkar, the movie has already crossed 200 fan shows in Kerala with screening beginning from 8am in the State.

Another highlight from the movie, scripted by Pulimurugan fame Udaykrishna, is that it also features a cameo by AR Rahman , who will play himself in the film. The film marks the ace composer’s first Malayalam collaboration 30 years after Yodha.
