After wowing both critics and audiences alike with Aarya, filmmaker Ram Madhvani has his eyes set on yet another exciting project. Madhvani will helm a series The Waking of a Nation, based on the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.

In conversation with Variety, Madhvani revealed that the series will consist of six or seven parts, and the final script will be finished in two months. A popular streaming giant had already approached the creator in regards to the series.

The Jallianwala Bagh massacre, which took place on April 13, 1919 resulted in the death of hundreds of protestors who had gathered at the place in Amritsar to protest the arrest of Indian freedom fighters. The British army had blocked the only exit of the place and had opened fire on the people, killing and injuring thousands.

Madhvani said that the upcoming series will focus on not only the events of the massacre, but also what preceded it and the events that followed. The show will also focus on the commission appointed by the British government in the aftermath of the incident, which was established to look into the tragic event.

On the other hand, Madhvani has his hands full. Is currently working on season two of the acclaimed Disney+ Hotstar crime thriller Aarya, starring Sushmita Sen. The series was nominated for an Emmy Award.

Madhvani also served as director of the upcoming Kartik Aaryan starrer Netflix film Dhamaka, which is an adaptation of the 2013 Korean film, The Terror Live.
