Sajin Gopu, who shot to fame as Rangannan's Amban from Aavesham last year, is currently busy promoting his latest film, Ponman which stars Basil Joseph in the lead. During the promotions for Ponman, Sajin Gopu was asked about collaborating with Basil Joseph in the film right after acting alongside Fahadh Faasil in Aavesham.
Sajin Gopu was asked about working in Aavesham with such a huge actor as Fahadh Faasil and then coming to Ponman which stars Janapriyan ( meaning popular) Basil. Sajin Gopu pointed out that he and Basil Joseph had featured previously together in Jan. E. Man. On working with them in the two films, Sajin Gopu remarked that both the actors transform into characters in front of the camera.
"Here, I only saw him as Ajesh PP, not as Basil. And when I was there (Aavesham sets), I only saw him as Ranga, not Fahadh. Here also when they call action, it is only Ajesh PP, you will not see Basil,” Sajin Gopu quipped.
For those of you who are yet to see Aavesham, Sajin Gopu played the trusted aid of gangster Ranga (Fahadh Faasil) in the 2024 blockbuster film. Not just Fahadh, but Sajin Gopu’s performance was also much lauded by viewers.
On the other hand, Ponman just released in theatres on January 30, 2025, opening to positive reviews. Apart from Sajin Gopu and Basil Joseph, the film also features Lijomol Jose in a key role.
During the promotions, Sajin was also asked if he would be seen in a cop role in filmmaker Tinu Pappachan's next. However, the actor said that the producers would be able to give clarity on the project.
Basil Joseph stars in the lead role of gold dealer Ajesh. The film follows the events after Ajesh lends gold for the marriage of Steffi after a promise that it will be returned. Lijomol Jose plays Steffi, while Sajin Gopu essays the role of her husband Mariyano, a criminal.
Ponman marks the directorial debut of Jothish Shankar. Deepak Parambol, Anand Manmadhan, Rajesh Sharma and Jaya Kurup are also part of the cast.
