Raj Chakraborty’s Abar Proloy was dropped on August 11 on Zee5. The web series that features Saswata Chatterjee, Paran Bandyopadhyay, Ritwick Chakraborty, Gaurav Chakrabarty, and others delves into the human trafficking operations in Sunderban. Along with the performance of the fresh group of actors, Debmalya Gupta’s portrayal of young Kanu has garnered appreciation.
Debmalya, who started his journey with theatre, has also worked in Rajneetini in which he plays the character of Ditipriya Roy’s brother. However, the actor has recently worked in a yet-untitled Tamil film by Karthik Subbaraj. He plays a key character in the film. Naveen Chandra is the lead in the film. The shooting took place in Thiruvananthapuram and Madurai.
Talking about the offer, Debmalya elaborated, “I got a call from Karthik Subbaraj’s office at 2 am and they asked me to send an audition. I was surprised. They also asked me if I could speak Tamil. I said now. After two weeks, they mailed me saying I was selected and I was asked to learn Tamil. I went to Ramakrishna Mission and took a Tamil language training for three and a half months before shooting.”
Meanwhile, Debmalya is elated with the response he has been receiving after Abar Proloy. “The series got released on Friday and I am flooded with text. I loved the shot in which I fight. When I went to Rajda’s office before shooting, he asked me if I could fight. I said I could not even kill a mosquito properly and he said that he would make me fight in the series. I loved that sequence,” he said.
