Abhilasham streaming on three platforms, Saiju Kurup’s film gets a thumbs up after OTT release
After a lackluster threatre run, Abhilasham is finally seem to be getting its due post its OTT release, that too on three streaming platforms.

The theatrical release of Abhilasham went mostly unnoticed as Saiju Kurup’s film clashed with the mighty Empuraan, starring Mohanlal and directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran. Abhilasham hardly made a dent at the box office, even earning some flak for choosing the release date so close to the Lucifer sequel. However, Abhilasham seem to be finally getting its due post its OTT release, that too on three streaming platforms.
Saiju Kurup’s Abhilasham on OTT
Saiju Kurup-starrer Abhilasham, which released in theatres two days after L2 Empuraan in March 2025, made its OTT premiere on Prime Video and Manorama Max on May 23. The film is also streaming on Simply South. Netizens, who watched Shamzu Zayba's directorial on the OTT platform, have now praised the film, especially the lead actor’s performance and the songs.
The audience seems to have particularly liked the feel-good tone of the film, especially at a time when Malayalam cinema seems to be obsessed with police and crime thrillers such as Marco and Bougainvillaea.
One comment on Reddit read, “It is actually worth a watch.. even though it might seem like the usual stuff, it is actually a decent enough study on complicated relationships.”
Another netizen said, “If you are looking for a feel-good romantic movie, I believe this is a must-watch.”
Another feature of the film that seems to have impressed is the music by Sreehari K Nair. One fan commented that it is one of the best play lists in recent times.
The leading man, Saiju Kurup, also won praise for his portrayal as Abhilash, who struggles to express his romantic feelings to the woman of his dreams to his childhood friend Sherin. One netizen commented, “Anyone else feel like Saiju Kurup is one of the most underappreciated actors?” Incidentally, Saiju Kurup’s another film Bharathanatyam also won appreciation after its OTT release on Prime Video.
Apart from Saiju Kurup, Abhilasham also stars Tanvi Ram as Sherin along with Arjun Ashokan, and Navas Vallikkunnu.
