Abhishek Bachchan celebrated 13 years of Delhi-6's release with a video post that he shared on Instagram today. Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra directed the film – his third after Aks and Rang De Basanti —that also has Sonam Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, Om Puri, Waheeda Rahman, Divya Dutta and Aditi Rao Hydari.
The 15-second-long video, set to AR Rahman and Mohit Chauhan's song 'Masakali', features pivotal stills from the film. In the caption, Bachchan wrote, "From Mamdu's Jalebi, to Dadi's laad-pyaar to Bittu's chirping and Ali Chacha's words of wisdom...
13 years passed, but all this is still so fresh in my mind (sic)."
Delhi-6 takes its name from the postal code of Old Delhi's Chandni Chowk neighbourhood. The story follows Bachchan as Roshan Mehra, an NRI, who visits his ailing grandmother (Rahman). Slowly, he begins to embrace his roots and the culture he was born into but also gets caught in a heated religious dispute. A sub-plot of the film makes mention of the infamous Kala Bandar incident, where a mysterious monkey-like character allegedly attacked the citizens of Delhi.
On Delhi-6's 10th anniversary, Bachchan said the film has "a heart and soul of gold" along with a "poignant message."
After its release in 2009, Delhi-6 flopped at the box office, though it has achieved cult status since then. In 2010, the film was given two National Awards – Best Feature Film on National Integration and Best Production Design.
