Abhishek Khan garners fame for his role in SonyLIV’s Project 9191

SonyLIV’s original web-series Project 9191 released on March 26. It opened to great audience reviews. Moreover, a performance that has been widely appreciated was that of Abhishek Khan, who portrayed the role of Johnny on the show.

Khan has previously established himself as an actor in Netflix’s Bard of Blood, produced by Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment. The web show starred Emraan Hashmi in the lead role of ex-RAW agent Kabir Anand. Khan, on the other hand, was recognized for playing the role of Nusrat Marri on the show.

A crime-drama web-series, Project 9191 follows a crime tracking team of Mumbai police. The team attempts to curb crimes that haven’t even happened yet, whether it is kidnapping, extortion or terror threats. The mystery of how they achieve this feat is revealed in the SonyLIV original, directed by Subbu Iyer.

Johnny, played by Khan, is a dependable tech analyst who forms a core member of the team. The actor has received positive reviews for his performance. Elaborating on the reviews he has received, the actor expressed his gratitude for being a part of the show.

“It was a fantastic experience working with such senior actors and I am really grateful to be a part of a Sony LIV original show,” said Khan.

Talking about his character Johnny, Khan stated that the character is rooted in subtlety and kindness: “He is not your usual techie that is often portrayed in shows and films. He is not someone who is over-the-top about codes and programming. Johnny as a character is subtle, sober and kind. And I've tried my best to keep it away from all the regular clichés we encounter these days and I am happy that Johnny has been received well by the general audience.”

In conversation with EasternEye, the actor also explained the process of his transformation into Johnny.

"I do not like to talk much about it. Losing weight or getting tanned or doing anything specific to get into the character is not really something to garner attention for. It is our job to look like the character and act and that’s it. But to answer your question, I had nothing specific in my mind," he said.

For the character of Johnny, the actor played the character in a simple manner, keeping away from all cliches.

An exclusive SonyLIV series, Project 9191 also stars Satyajit Sharma, Trishna Mukharjee, Vaibhav Tatwawaadi, Manini De, and Jagat Rawat. The series has been produced under the banner of Studio Next which also co-produced Scam 1992 in the recent past.
