Drishyam 2 by Ajay Devgn is doing fantastic business in theatres. The movie made 64.14 crores in its opening weekend alone, and 100 crores will be achieved in less than a week. Trade analysts and moviegoers were astounded by these results since they had assumed that remakes would no longer be accepted. Abhishek Pathak, the film's director, has now spoken candidly about the reasons of the movie's enormous success.

Bollywood produced two excellent remakes this year: Vikram Vedha, starring Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan, and Jersey, starring Shahid Kapoor. Despite favourable reviews and word-of-mouth, both movies had disastrous box office results. There was concern about the Drishyam sequel as a result of these failures. However, unexpected things have happened.

Abhishek Pathak believes that despite being a remake, Drishyam 2 has its own strengths and benefits from the forerunner.

He says, “Without us doing anything, every year on October 2, there are memes about Vijay Salgaonkar and his family. It’s fun. Mohanlal sir is a great actor, a very established actor but the Hindi audiences relate Drishyam somewhere more with Vijay Salgaonkar and Ajay Devgn. And even though the Malayalam sequel was out, many people didn’t watch it as they wanted to see the Hindi version first. That is because they relate so much with Ajay sir,” as reported by Hindustan Times.

Abhishek goes on to say that Drishyam 2 isn't merely a "copy paste" project; rather, the screenplay has been modified while the core of the original story has been maintained. He also discloses that they had purchased the Hindi remake rights prior to the Malayalam version's distribution on OTT.

Ajay Devgn starrer Drishyam 2 released in theatres on November 18. It also stars Shriya Saran, Tabu, Akshaye Khanna, and Ishita Dutta.
