Abir Chatterjee to star as lead actor in the next Srijit Mukherji's feature film

After several guest appearances in Srijit Mukerji's film, Abir Chatterjee will now play the lead role in his next feature called Loho Gauranger Naam Re. The film also features Sohini Sarkar, Paoli Dam and Parambrata Chatterjee, among others

The drama will reportedly follow film within a film structure that will touch upon the glorious era of Kolkata theatre and the historical personalities like Girish Chandra Ghosh, Noti Binodini and others. According to ABP, Abir will play the role of an actor who plays Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s role and Sohini Sarkar will play the role of Abir’s wife. Paoli Dam will play a pivotal role in the narrative and Parambrata Chatterjee will be seen as Chaitanya in a different timeline. Bratya Basu is going to play the role of the great thespian, Girish Chandra Ghosh.

The story is set in three different timelines but the characters of Abir, Sohini and Paoli are set in the present.

Abir Chatterjee has earlier mentioned that he has been longing to play the lead in one of Srijit Mukherji’s projects but it never happened before. He would often crack a joke citing that he’s always going to be the ‘guest’ in Srijit’s features but now it appears that the jinx is broken.

But Abir was not the first choice for the part. It was initially offered to Jisshu Sengupta. However, he refused to be a part of this project. The role was then offered to Anirban Bhattacharya. Due to Anirban's long-standing commitment to SVF, he couldn't accept the offer either. And finally, Abir got the part.

Abir has appeared as a guest actor in many of Srijit Mukherji’s projects earlier like Baishe Srabon, Dwitiyo Purush, Rajkahini etc. But this brand new association promises to showcase the actor in different dynamics and unforeseen dimensions.

Rana Sarkar is producing the project and the shooting will commence by the end of June. Debojyoti Mishra is going to compose the score for Loho Gauranger Naam Re.
