After a six-year hiatus, actor Jayaram has made a strong comeback to Malayalam films with Midhun Manuel Thomas’ Abraham Ozler. The film, which was released in theatres on January 11, opened to positive reception from audiences who praised Jayaram’s impeccable performance and, of course, an exciting cameo by Mammootty.

According to Sacnilk, the film earned a whopping ₹2.8 crore on its opening day. The film managed to secure a 50.85% Malayalam occupancy rate. Amid huge releases like Dhaush Captain Miller and Mahesh Babu’s Guntur Kaaram, the Jayaram starrer is expected to mint more numbers in the coming festive weekend in Kerala.

Jayaram reveals that Thalapathy Vijay was excited to watch Ozler

At a promotional event, Jayaram revealed that Thalapathy Vijay, with whom the actor will be sharing screen space in the Venkat Prabhu directorial The Goat, expressed his desire to watch Ozler, but for one interesting reason. “I was shooting for The Goat in Chennai alongside Vijay when I mentioned to him that my film (Abraham Ozler) was releasing. He asked me if rumours about Mammootty being part of the film were true. I said yes, and he immediately expressed his wish to watch the film sooner; hence, I arranged a show for him," the actor revealed. He added that Vijay has been particularly impressed by the choice of scripts Mammootty has been taking in recent times.

Jayaram on collaborating with ‘new generation’ filmmakers

Malayalam cinema has been witnessing several new talents who have been establishing their foothold through impressive films. Jayaram, who has experimented with the same by working with new sensation Midhun Manuel Thomas and co-stars Arjun Ashokan and Anaswara Rajan, spoke about why he wishes to be part of the ‘new gen’ crew.

“There’s this ‘new-gen’ cinema that’s making waves across the country and I wish to be part of that. With Ozler, I think I have been able to accomplish that and hopefully, other filmmakers too will notice that I can be considered for such roles in the future,” the Ponniyin Selvan actor revealed.
