Acharya, the action entertainer that brought together Chiranjeevi and his son, star Ram Charan for a full-fledged appearance for the first time in their careers, hit theatres on April 29. The film was written and directed by Koratala Siva and produced by Niranjan Reddy and Anvesh Reddy under Matinee Entertainment along with Chiranjeevi's home banner Konidela Productions. While the film earned a modest response at the theatres, it is now set to land on the streaming giant, Amazon Prime Video, on May 20.
Amazon Prime Video, confirming the news on their social media handles, while sharing an image of Ram Charan and Chiranjeevi from the film, wrote, "They call him Acharya because he always teaches them a lesson馃挜 #AcharyaOnPrime, May 20" In addition to the father-son duo, the film's cast comprises Pooja Hegde, Sonu Sood, Tanikella Bharani, Satyadev Kancharana (special appearance), Vennela Kishore, Jisshu Sengupta, Benarjee and others in key roles.
The story of Acharya is set in the pristine temple town Dharmasthali, wherein lies a picturesque piece of land, Padaghattam, locked amid a lush green forest and a holy water body. An ill-intentioned Basava takes control of Padaghattam and wrecks havoc on the lives of its residents. The helpless locals look for a ray of hope and find a saviour in the form of Acharya, a new entrant to the town. How does Acharya put the sinners in their place and guard the town? Is there a deeper purpose behind his presence in Padaghattam? What connects him to Siddha?
Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan are cast in the roles of Acharya and Siddha respectively, while Pooja Hegde plays Neelambari, the on-screen love interest of the latter. Khadgam actress Sangeetha, Regina Cassandra make special appearances in a couple of dance numbers. Suresh Selvarajan had created one of the biggest-ever set in Telugu cinema for Acharya of a temple town, taking inspiration from many popular temples in South India. Thiru cranked the camera for the film that had music by Mani Sharma.
