The pandemic has really done a number on the film industry. Just when it seemed that things were going back to normal with theatres functioning at full capacity and audiences returning to movie halls in good numbers, a third wave struck, forcing all big-ticket films, across languages to postpone their releases indefinitely. Although cases are still high, the fact that this wave appears to be a lot milder seems to have given governments across the country the confidence to open up business again. While theatres still remain shut or at 50% capacity in most places, the hope is for that to change soon, given that almost every other industry is back to business as usual.

One of the first major releases to announce its postponement was the SS Rajamouli directorial RRR, which, as of today, has set course for March 25, 2022. In lieu of this, the makers of megastar Chiranjeevi’s upcoming action drama, Acharya, which also stars Ram Charan, have decided to freeze April 29 (which, incidentally was a date that RRR was toying with) as its release date.

Produced by Ram Charan and Anvesh Reddy under Konidela Productions and Matinee Entertainments banners, Acharya, is, according to reports, about a middle-aged Naxalite-turned-social reformer who fights misappropriation and embezzlement of temple funds and donations. The film, which has Kajal Aggarwal and Pooja Hegde as the leading ladies, is the maiden collaboration of Chiranjeevi and Koratala Siva, who is best known for films such as Mirchi, Srimanthudu, Bharat Ane Nenu and Janatha Garage, among others. Music is by Mani Sharma, while S Thirunavukkarasu is the cinematographer. The film also stars Sonu Sood, Saurav Lokesh (Bhajarangi Loki), Kishore, and Jisshu Sengupta, among others on its cast.
