Achena Uttam director miffed with scam-tainted actress Haimanti Ganguly

Haimanti Ganguly has been the trending name in West Bengal for the last 48 hours. The actress who was practically unknown in Tollywood suddenly became a household name after her name surfaced in the TET SSC recruitment scam. The arrested state ruling party youth leader Kuntal Ghosh claimed that Haimanti knew everything. He also said that Haimanti is the second wife of Gopal Dalpati – a party leader. 

The screenplay of the film Achena Uttam was found in Haimanti’s house. Then further search revealed that she acted in the film, directed by Atanu Basu. How did she get the project in the film, starring Saswata Chattopadhyay, Rituparna Sengupta, and Ditipriya Roy?

Atanu told the media, “The carpenter at my house had been telling me for a long time that someone wanted to meet me. But I avoided the meeting since the film was stalled at that time. Then after lots of requests, I met her.” Atanu said that the film had a huge cast, and several junior artists were needed. Haimanti was selected for a nurse’s role, which consisted of three or four scenes, with a remuneration of just Rs 2,500. But the director became unhappy with her before the shooting ended. What happened?

The director said, “Haimanti wanted to get close to the producer. she met him in a hotel in Park Street and proposed someone else as the director of his next film.” Atanu lamented, “The girl who got an opening through me was not at all professional. She went to the producer to campaign for another director without informing me. It seemed to have a sheer bad taste.” 

Atanu also added that Haimanti was not a good actress, and hence her scenes were cut short from the film. She was not called for dubbing either. Someone else did it. The director said that he has no idea about Haimanti’s private life. 

Haimanti also acted in the film Jaal, starring Soumitra Chatterjee. The film’s director Shyamal Basu said that someone known to Haimanti invested in the film. That was the reason for her getting work. reportedly, Haimanty had a special relationship with the investor. She worked in one or two more low-budget films. Then she vanished suddenly. Haimanti did not have contact with the industry for the last two years. 

Another source in Tollywood said that Haimanti did not have much acting quality and hence she had to depend on recommendations. Kuntal claimed that crores of rupees from the recruitment scam went to Haimanti and Gopal Dalpati. That is why she is now the talk of the town.
