Abhishek Banerjee is surely a happy man right now because his short film Vakeel Saab has made its way into the prestigious New York Indian Film Festival 2022. Banerjee shared the poster of the film on his Instagram handle and expressed his excitement.
Vakeel Saab is directed and edited by Sumit Purohit of BAFTA-nominated series, Scam 1993 fame. Abhishek Banerjee (Stree, Paatal Lok) plays the titlular role in the short film, Vakeel Saab which literally translates to Mr. Advocate.
The film traces the journey of Shiraz Hassan (Banerjee) as he rediscovers his purpose in the judicial system after being distracted by chasing success through his digital video channel.
The film deals with a very sensitive social issue about the legal challenges faced by the victims of gender-based violence. The makers aim to start a discourse that will address the role, lawyers play in the lives of their clients seeking justice against gender-based violence and more specifically domestic violence.
Esteemed Gujarati and Hindi TV and theatre actor, Bhamini Oza Gandhi and Loveleen Mishra of Raees fame have also featured in Vakeel Saab.
Anushka Shah has produced the film and the entire crew is excited about the opportunity of showcasing their work on the prestigious stage of the New York Indian Film Festival 2022.
Meanwhile, Banerjee also has an interesting lineup of films of various genres, including Bhediya, Aankh Micholi, and the Telugu thriller Runway.
