It is actor-filmmaker MG Srinivas’ birthday today. Srini, as he is popularly known, was last seen in the comedy Old Monk, is currently prepping for his next big directorial, Ghost, which will have Century Star Shiva Rajkumar in the lead. He’s been putting his technical team in place, including Mahen Simha as DOP, Arjun Janya for music, Maasti and Prasanna VM for dialogues, etc.

In the last three years, Srini has often been asked about his next film in the Birbal franchise, since he had announced it as a trilogy. The first, Birbal: Finding Vajramuni, had come out in 2019. A thriller, the film was about a man wrongly accused of murder, and the lawyer helping him clear his name. The film was the launchpad of Rukmini Vasanth, who is currently working with Rakshit Shetty (Sapta Sagaradaache Ello) and Ganesh (Baana Daariyali). While Srini has always said that completing the Birbal Trilogy was in his scheme of things, he had not put a timeline in place, until today.

Earlier this morning, Srini put up a poster of Birbal: Case 2, with a promise that the film will go on floors after he finishes Ghost, which will probably be sometime in 2023. “On the occasion of my birthday, I am presenting the poster of a film that I am always asked about, the film most of you have been waiting for #BIRBAL2. The shoot of this film will start post the completion of #GHOST. #Birbal2:: 2023,” he wrote. Srini will collaborate yet again with music composer duo Saurabh-Vaibhav on Birbal 2. They’ve done the music for Birbal: Finding Vajramuni and Old Monk earlier. Srini has been quoted as saying that Birbal 2 will also be an edge-of-the-seat whodunit thriller like the first instalment. Sujay Shastry and veteran actor Suresh Heblikar will play pivotal roles in the sequel that will be shot in Bengaluru.
