Adhura director Gauravv K Chawla: There's a reason why films like Bhool Bhulaiyaa works | Exclusive

Adhura is a new web series that premiered on Amazon Prime Video on July 7, 2023. It is the first Hindi horror series on the streaming platform and features a star-studded cast of Rasika Dugal, Ishwak Singh, Shrenik Arora, Rahul Dev and others. The series is directed by Ananya Banerjee and Gauravv K Chawla and produced by Monisha Advani, Madhu Bhojwani and Nikkhil Advani.

Recently, director Gauravv K Chawla, during a conversation with OTTPlay exclusively gave some insights of the film. He also talked about the comparison between Hollywood and Bollywood film making and shared a horror trivia from the sets. 

Talking about how Indian horror is different from Hollywood horror, he said, "Hamare culture mein bhoot, pret, aatma, supernatural, ye sab to bahot hi rooted hai. It’s part of our religion, it’s part of our culture. There’s a reason why film like Bhool Bhulaiyaa works so well. So there’s no fear to attempt it. I think, once you get the technical aspects right, the journey of the writing and the story is very very interesting if the emotions are right, the revenge, the characters, and horror is the icing on the cake. That is what puts it all together."

Later, the director also shared an incident where they experienced something spooky. He said, "Post production ke time par right from the editing machine to the sound designers machine to the trailer cutters machine, there were some moments where the machines just went off. And we needed to restart and this happened constantly."

Coming back to Adhura, the series revolves around a prestigious boarding school in Ooty, where strange events take place that seem to be connected to Vedant, a 10-year-old new student. When the batch of 2007 returns for its reunion, Adhiraj Jaisingh, an ex-student must face what he did fifteen years ago. But things take a horrifying turn when Vedant and Adhiraj's paths collide. A dark secret begins to reveal itself threatening the lives of everyone on campus.
