The news concerning the film adaptation of Shaktimaan has surely charmed the netizens who are now keenly looking forward to the project coming to life. To make things better, Ranveer Singh is said to have been attached to the film to play the titular role, albeit an official confirmation is yet to come from the actor’s end. And now, in the same vein, new reports emerge stating that Adipurush director Om Raut has been approached to helm the mega project.
Although there isn’t any confirmation regarding Raut’s association, a Mid-day report reveals that the makers, quite indeed, are in conversations with the Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior director. Considering the scale and the VFX-heavy nature of the Shaktimaan film adaptation, Sony Pictures Films India is said to have been keen on Om Raut lending his experience to the ambitious project.
Marathi-Hindi filmmaker Om Raut began his journey in 2015 with the Bal Gangadhar Tilak biopic Lokmanya: Ek Yug Purush before rising to prominence with the Ajay Devgn – Saif Ali Khan starrer Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior. Raut’s distinct vision for the period epic fetched him and the film positive reviews and incredible box office results. Buoyed by the success, he would go on to helm yet another period film based on the epic Ramayana, titled Adipurush. The upcoming film stars Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Saif Ali Khan.
Coming back to the Shaktimaan adaptation, Sony Pictures International Productions made the grand announcement back in February of 2022 of bringing the cult Indian superhero to the big screen. This would be a mighty superhero trilogy on the cards with Mukesh Khanna, the actor who portrayed Shaktimaan for several years on TV, attached to the project through production house Bheeshm International in association with Brewing Thoughts Private Limited.
Shaktimaan, the TV series, was created by Mukesh Khanna and Dinker Jani and aired on Doordarshan between 1997 and 2005. Khanna played the titular role and his alter ego Pandit Gangadhar Vidhyadhar Mayadhar Omkarnath Shastri and was joined by Surendra Pal, Kitu Gidwani, and Vaishnavi Mahant for the principal cast.
