Adipurush: Producer Bhushan Kumar shares update on release date for Prabhas-led film

Bhushan Kumar, who is producing Prabhas's film Adipurush, an adaptation of Ramayana, has shared an update on the film's release date. 

There has been speculation that the film will have its release on Diwali this year. Kumar told Pinkvilla: "Right now, we have not decided on a release date for Adipurush. Once decided, we shall announce it. There are some other films already announced for Diwali weekend, so we need to see which date we can come on."

The multi-lingual drama (Hindi and Telugu) stars Prabhas as Raghav along with Saif Ali Khan as Lankesh and Kriti Sanon as Janaki.

Om Raut (Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, Logmanya: Ek Yug Purush) has directed the film, which wrapped filming in November last year. The film reportedly cost Rs 500 crore to make.

In a recent interview with Variety, the filmmaker said the idea of bringing Ramayana to screen struck him after he watched Yugo Sako’s adaptation The Prince of Light at the Mumbai Film Festival sometime in the early 2000s. 

Raut said that Adipurush is set 7000 years ago but will be told with "modern storytelling techniques."
