It has been officially announced that Aamir Khan and filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani will be working together again, following a break of more than ten years since their last feature, PK. The iconic duo is reuniting for a biopic on the father of Indian cinema, Dadasaheb Phalke. Their previous collaborations included the successful films 3 Idiots and PK.
After it was reported earlier this month about Aamir and Hirani discussing a slice-of-life drama, the two quickly revealed that their next project will be about Dadasaheb Phalke's life and career. The producers are reportedly planning to release the highly awaited film around Christmas 2026.
According to an insider informing Pinkvilla, Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani films have always set new benchmarks at the box office during the Christmas weekend, whether it's 3 Idiots or PK. They intend to arrive during the prolonged holiday season, carrying on the tradition. Beginning in October 2025, filming will continue until April 2026, with a protracted post-production phase following.
Abhijat Joshi, who has collaborated with Hirani, Hindukush, and Avishkar Bharadwaj, is writing the untitled biopic. The period in which Phalke was an innovator in Indian cinema—the late 1800s and early 1900s—is being painstakingly recreated in the pre-production work that has already commenced.
According to the source, the previsualisation process has already begun, and the goal is to meticulously reproduce the 1800s and 1900s. Actually, Aamir will also undergo acting lessons to get into the role of Dadasaheb Phalke, and he is a perfectionist; therefore, he is given various looks. The superstar and Hirani consider the film a tribute to the man who "knew" how to make films in India.

There are rumours that the film will incorporate Hirani's signature blend of comedy and drama. The source revealed that, similar to all Hirani films, the Dadasaheb Phalke biopic will feature a strong sense of comedy interspersed throughout the dramatic plot. Los Angeles-based companies will provide visual effects and previsualization work to back up the story, which has allegedly been in development for three years.
Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par is getting ready to enter theatres on June 20, but he has a few months to wait until this production goes on floors.
