Bheed marks Rajkummar Rao's first collaboration with Anubhav Sinha, and he spent the last few months of 2021 filming it. The actor is slated to return to the director's set even before the social drama hits the screens. Rao is expected to star in Sinha's short film in the upcoming anthology film, which the director announced in July.
For the anthology set against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, Sinha and T-Series have gathered a talented cast of directors, including Sudhir Mishra, Hansal Mehta, and Ketan Mehta, among others.
According to a source, the actor-director duo formed a strong bond while filming Bheed. When Sinha told Rao about the premise of his short film, it struck a chord with him. According to the filmmaker, the actor has a personal connection to the film. Sinha places a high value on casting, and he almost always knows who he wants to play the part from the start. The source continued, saying that the director thought Rao was the perfect fit for the part.
The film will be shot in North India and will begin filming next month. Meanwhile, Taapsee Pannu and Parambrata Chatterjee have been cast in Mishra's short film, which is a socio-political drama that spans two generations.
Earlier, during an exclusive interaction with OTTplay, Rao had opened up about working with Sinha in Bheed. The actor had said, "I always wanted to work with Anubhav sir, and I think it is the right story for both of us to come together. It's hard-hitting, as in the kinds of films he makes, social dramas. I am just really excited and looking forward to starting shooting for the film."
Bheed also features Bhumi Pednekar in the lead role, and the film is slated for release theatrically later this year.
