After Bhool Chuk Maaf, Rajkummar Rao to star in Shoojit Sircar's two-hero comedy film? Here's what we know

Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi's film Bhool Chuk Maaf is finally scheduled for a theatrical release on May 23. The film landed in a legal dispute after the makers announced that it will directly land on Amazon Prime Video on May 16, ignoring the original theatrical release on May 9. Amid this, a report claimed that Rajkummar has teamed up for a two-hero comedy film, directed by Shoojit Sircar. 

Rajkummar Rao in a Shoojit Sircar film?

According to Pinkvilla, renowned filmmaker Shoojit Sircar has prepared the script for his next film and is set to start shooting from the second half of 2025. The portal mentioned that the film is a two-hero comedy film, and Rajkummar Rao is confirmed to play one of the two leads.

“Rajkummar Rao and Shoojit Sircar have been jamming about a probable collaboration for a while now, and the energies have finally aligned on this yet untitled satirical comedy. Rajkummar has given a go-ahead to the script, with the intent of starting the shoot towards the end of 2025,” revealed a source close to the development.

The source further mentioned that the brief is simple - a believable actor, with a bit of comedic timing. Shoojit also wants to work with secure people who don't interfere too much in the filmmaking process. "Two-hero films are tricky, and it’s crucial to work with the right energies. Shoojit has found Raj, who aligns with his sensibilities and the hunt for parallel lead is underway,” the source added.

The upcoming Bhool Chuk Maaf follows the story of Ranjan, a frustrated lover, who gets a government job before their wedding to impress his girlfriend Titli. However, just before the wedding, Ranjan finds himself stuck in a time loop, waking up repeatedly on the day of their haldi ceremony. 

The film focuses on love, fate, and second chances, where Ranjan tries to secure his future with Titli. The film stars Rajkummar Rao as Ranjan and Wamiqa Gabbi as Titli. The supporting cast includes Sanjay Mishra, Seema Pahwa, Raghuvir Yadav, and Zakir Hussain. Bhool Chuk Maaf will hit theaters on May 23, 2025.
