Dibakar has recently revealed that it was not only Byomkesh but he was keen to work on another literary detective character Feluda, and make a film.
Dibakar Banerjee’s Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! secured a permanent corner in the hearts of millions of viewers, especially Bengalis. The quintessential Bengali detective from Saradindu Bandyopadhyay’s literature jazzed up with Dibakar’s direction and Sushant Singh Rajput’s acting. Meanwhile, Dibakar has recently revealed that it was not only Byomkesh but he was keen to work on another literary detective character Feluda, and make a film.
While answering a question in a recent podcast, Dibakar said that he wanted to make a Feluda film. In fact, he also thought about casting Abhay Deol. However, it never materialised.
Feluda is considered to be one of the most successful series by Satyajit Ray. The rights of Feluda remain with Satyajit Ray’s family. According to reports, when Sandip Ray was asked if he knew about Dibakar’s wish to make a film on Feluda he said that he was not aware of it. “I am not aware of any such thing but if anyone wants to discuss, we are ready,” he said.
Satyajit Ray directed two iconic Feluda films – Sonar Kella and Jai Baba Felunath. Later a number of TV series took place. Recently Arindam Sil directed a Feluda web series with Parambrata Chatterjee in the lead for Zee5. On the other hand, Srijit Mukherji has been making a number of Feluda web series with Tota Roychowdhury as the main character. Anirban Chakrabarti plays Jatayu in the series.
