Aamir Khan, who has been delivering a series of underperforming films for years now, has gone on to reveal that he never wanted to be a producer. The actor's latest offering is Sitaare Zameen Par, which faced controversy even after it started streaming digitally. The actor got candid about his shift from acting to production when speaking during a recent podcast. Aamir is now producing Sunny Deol's Lahore 1947, which was also in the midst of controversy recently. Here's everything you need to know...

Aamir Khan's statement

While talking to Komal Nahta on Game Changers, Aamir Khan revealed that he never wanted to be a producer and realized it early on. "Mujhe lagta hai jab maine apne father ka career dekha first-hand, toh mujhe realize hua mujhe producer kabhi nahi banna hai," the actor said, stating that it was mainly because a producer invests, takes a huge risk and faces all the backlash also. He also added how there are times when the team doesn't co-operate with the producer's budget. The actor recalled how during Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, he felt like he was a successful actor and thus, there was no need to be a producer, especially because he is satisfied with his work and his producers were happy, too. However, things changed along the way, and now, Aamir is both a producer as well as an actor.

Aamir Khan has served underperforming films over the past few years. It began with Thugs of Hindostan, and the actor was then seen in Forrest Gump remake Laal Singh Chaddha. Both the movies turned out to be Box Office disasters. Aamir's latest release Sitaare Zameen Par, despite performing better than the first two films, was still underwhelming for the superstar who once delivered Rs. 200 crore films within the first weekend itself.

The backlash for Sitaare Zameen Par's digital streaming

With Sitaare Zameen Par, Aamir Khan introduced a pay-per-view model on his YouTube channel. This model did not sit well with the OTT consuming audiences who found it an expensive affair. Thus, many refused to watch the movie digitally. Not just Sitaare Zameen Par, Aamir has also started streaming movies produced by him on the YouTube channel owned by his production company. The movies were once a part of OTT platforms, but were shifted as part of Aamir's plan.
