After Everything plot

The romantic drama franchise, After, is based on the best-selling After books penned by Anna Todd. Starring the charismatic pairing of Hero Fiennes Tiffin and Josephine Langford in lead roles, this romantic franchise established a loyal fanbase despite critical reviews. The coming-of-age story revolves around a young college fresher, Tessa Young, who begins a toxic relationship with the charming and womanizer Hardin Scott. Despite their different backgrounds and aspirations, the duo finds a mesmerizing attraction and begins a relationship, but soon separates after a sinister lie. The following sequels - After We Collided, After We Fell, and After Ever Happy - navigate their tumultuous relationship as they juggle careers, friends, family, and love.

Do Hardin and Tessa end up together?

Ever since the fifth and final part, After Everything, dropped on Netflix, global fans have been excited to know whether Hardin and Tessa will end up together or not. Their complicated and on-off relationship finally gets a shiny end with Hardin and Tessa’s glorious family life. After their awkward encounter with Landon (Hardin’s stepbrother and Tessa’s best friend) at Nora’s wedding, Hardin tries to win back his love by giving a heartfelt wedding speech in which he mentions Tessa as the other half of his soul. After a sensuous love-making scene, Hardin proposes to Tessa on his knees, and she accepts (with happy tears, of course!), thus marking their fairytale beginning.

In the end scene, Hardin and Tessa finally live their dream lives, with Tessa cooking meals for Hardin and their daughter. Fans also get the little surprise of Tessa being pregnant with their second child. The beautiful and happy ending makes up for the slow-paced and mundane narrative in the final part of the After franchise.

How does Hardin find closure for his troubled past?

The final and fifth part, titled After Everything, is narrated from Hardin’s point of view and revolves around his dilemmas as he struggles to find closure with his past and guilt. After separating from Tessa, Hardin drowns in his alcohol addiction and also faces troubles in her professional life as he suffers from writer's block. His mother and biological father advise him to begin again and try to move on with his life. Hardin decides to face his dark past by making amends with his ex-girlfriend Natalie, whom he had hurt by playing with her feelings and ruining her image.

When Natalie forgives him, Hardin asks for her permission to write a book, and she agrees. Thus, showcasing that they both have moved on in their lives and found closure with their past. Hardin also expresses his gratitude to Natalie by fulfilling her wish to own a house at the top of the hills in Lisbon as he hands her the keys to her dream villa, and they part ways happily.
