Sunny Deol earned immense praises for his movie, Gadar 2. The original plot of the film is based on the India-Pakistan partition of 1947. Gadar is, however, essentially, the love story between Tara Singh (Sunny Deol) and Sakeena (Ameesha Patel). Now, it looks like Sunny Deol has collaborated with Aamir Khan for a similar story. Their untitled next with Rajkumar Santoshi could also be based on the divide of 1947.

What we hear

Pinkvilla has shared details about Sunny Deol and Aamir Khan’s upcoming project with Rajkumar Santoshi. The untitled film is supposedly based on a Punjabi play called Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya O Jamyai Nai. Asghar Wajahat has written the play and it has the backdrop of the partition of 1947.

What is it about

The play is about a Muslim family migrating from Lucknow to Lahore and living in a haveli which has been abandoned by a Hindu family. They happen to find an old Hindu lady in the haveli. She refuses to leave the place, asserting her rights on the property.

What is the film’s current status?

We hear that the movie is under production and the makers are finalizing some details, including the cast apart from Sunny Deol. It is expected to go on floors in December 2023 or January 2024. The movie was in the works since a decade now. Back in 2013, Anil Kapoor was supposed to play the lead role in the film. However, back then, things did not work out. Rajkumar then approached Sunny Deol with the script in 2018 but they could not move ahead owing to budget constraints. Finally, with Aamir Khan coming on board as the producer, the project is likely to take off soon. Apart from him, Jio Studios have come on board to bankroll the film. This will be Aamir Khan’s first professional outing since Laal Singh Chaddha (2022).
