Shreyas Talpade is all set to be back in the avatar of a cricketer, 17 years after his performance in Nagesh Kukunoor directorial Iqbal. The actor portrayed an aspiring deaf and mute cricketer, who finally makes it to the national team. Now, he's all set to bring the story of the Mumbai cricketer who made his debut in ILP at the age of 41, in his upcoming release Kaun Pravin Tambe? while begins to stream on Disney+ Hotstar from April 1.

Speaking about his life right after the release of Iqbal, the actor told IndulgeExpress.com that he auditioned for a comedy film after Iqbal and was rejected. "I was told I had a ‘serious’ image. Ironically, I got to a point where I am now known for comedies and it’s a challenge to get back to dramas," the actor was quoted as saying by the portal.

The actor highlighted how Pravin Tambe's age always became a major factor with the selectors who never selected the bowler. Finally, he played his debut IPL match in the year 2013 as part of the Rajasthan Royals team which was led by Rahul Dravid back then. Speaking about age being a major factor in selections for the cricketer, Talpade told the portal that Pravin hated it. "So what if someone is 35 or 40? If they can perform, they should be allowed to play," he said.

Shreyas also shared that the supporting actors in Kaun Pravin Tambe? were all cricketers and he felt great taking wickets on his own. He also shared his thoughts on ageism and said that it's not limited to cricket alone, but is prevalent in other industries too. He said that if he didn't get the chance to portray Pravin Tambe's story on screen, he'd probably have to return in the avatar of a coach, 17 years after Iqbal. “Iqbal coach ban gaya! That's usually the norm. I am so happy I got to return as a player.”

Shreyas was last seen in Bhaiaji Superhit in 2018. He also made a special appearance in the song Aankh Marey as himself. After Kaun Pravin Tambe? Shreyas has Mannu aur Munni ki Shaadi as his next. Kaun Pravin Tambe? release on Disney+ Hotstar on April 1.
