Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha and Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan are two big Bollywood releases that are going to clash at the box office on August 11. While Laal Singh Chaddha has been facing strong criticism and even some calls for a boycott for some time now, Raksha Bandhan is also now being threatened by a boycott.

A few fans took to Twitter today to start a movement to try and boycott the Akshay Kumar-starrer. The hashtags calling for the movie’s boycott started after some users started digging up writer Kanika Dhillon’s old tweets. The tweets that the compiled included everything from the writer showing her displeasure towards the government on issues such as the anti-CAA protests to public lynching over cows.

Dhillon and husband Himanshu Sharma have co-written the script for Raksha Bandhan, which tells the tale of an elder brother who is ready to give up on his life to ensure a better future for his sisters. The movie’s trailer was released a few weeks back and has received a positive response.

Apart from Akshay, the movie also stars Bhumi Pednekar, Sahejmeen Kaur, Deepika Khanna, Sadia Khateeb and Smrithi Srikanth in important roles. Directed by Aanand L Rai, the drama marks the second collaboration between the filmmaker and Akshay Kumar.

While Raksha Bandhan is receiving boycott threats, Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha has been receiving a lot of flak and also some calls for a boycott. The actor had opened up about it in an interaction recently, saying that it hurts him deeply and that people should watch his movie.

Laal Singh Chaddha, which is the official Hindi remake of Tom Hanks’ Forrest Gump, also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Naga Chaitanya.
