After Lokah, Sandy Master to play villain in Jayasurya-Anushka Shetty’s Kathanar

It has been Lokah everywhere for the past few days. The Malayalam supernatural fantasy drama, which is headlined by actors Kalyani Priyadarshan and Naslen, has been making loud noise at the box office, and been getting good word of mouth across languages. Tamil actor and choreographer Sandy, who has played the primary antagonist in the film, made his Malayalam debut with Lokah. The actor, in an exclusive chat with OTTplay, also shares about how he will be playing a villain in a yet another Malayalam fantasy film which is connected to Lokah story wise.

Lokah actor Sandy Master talks about playing villain in Kathanar

Choreographer-turned-actor Sandy, who made his Malayalam debut with the recently released film Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, was recently in conversation with OTTplay. The actor plays the primary antagonist in the film. While his role was much appreciated, Sandy will be once again donning the baddie cape in yet another Malayalam film Kathanar.

In conversation with us, Sandy revealed that Kathanar was the first Malayalam film he got committed to. “I will be playing a villain in that film as well. To play the baddie is actually fun because you can do anything. There are no boundaries. There is no hero if there is no villain. So as much as a hero is important, so is the villain. In fact, the latter should be very strong for the hero to be elevated.”

Further speaking about Kathanar, Sandy said, “In Kerala, there are more expectations for the Kathanar film. It is more historical and since the dialogues are in old Malayalam, I have tried speaking the lines. But it has been dubbed by someone else.”

How is Lokah related to Kathanar?

For those who don’t know, Lokah story is rooted in Kerala folklore and mythological story about characters like Neeli, Kathanar, and Chattan. Kathanar is a sorcerer priest who is brought to impale Neeli, a blood-sucking spirit which is part of Kerala’s folklore. With Lokah taking its own spin in form of superhero story, the upcoming Malayalam film Kathanar will be a mythical period drama.

Kathanar is headlined by Jayasurya who will be playing the titular role. Kathanar is helmed by Rojin Thomas and will also feature Anushka Shetty and Prabhu Deva. The Baahubali actor is rumoured to play the role of Neeli.
