Mohanlal’s Monster, which marked his much-awaited team-up with Pulimurugan team of director Vysakh and scriptwriter Udaykrishna, didn’t quite live up to the expectations. The movie, which was initially made for OTT, released in theatres last month and is now all set to make its way to Disney+ Hotstar on December 2.

Up next, Mohanlal is gearing up for the release on Shaji Kailas’ Alone, which was also made for an OTT platform but is now set to hit theatres. Will it also meet the same fate as Monster? Here’s why it might not.

Mohanlal and Shaji Kailas combination

The hit duo, who had worked in blockbusters such as Narasimham and Aaraam Thampuran, teamed up after a gap over a decade for the firsttime last year in Alone. While Alone was shot first, the filmmaker’s Kaduva hit theatres before the movie and judging by the movie, it’s clear that the filmmaker hasn’t missed a beat.

One-actor film

The movie is a lockdown thriller, with Mohanlal essaying the role of an UN personnel who is stuck in Kerala due to the lockdown. Alone revolves entirely around Mohanlal’s character Kalidas and it would be interesting to see how the actor pulls it off. Mohanlal himself had said that he found the film’s script intriguing.

A bevy of guest stars

While Mohanlal might be the one on screen, a bunch of superstars have lent their voices for the movie. These included Prithviraj Sukumaran, who had worked with Mohanlal in Lucifer and Bro Daddy, and Manju Warrier. The latter had collaborated with Mohanlal and Shaji in their biggest hit Aaraam Thampuran. Siddique and several other actors will also be heard through phone calls in the upcoming movie.

Less hype, thanks to previous films

Alone is probably a film that will benefit a lot from the previous lacklustre performances of Mohanlal-starrers in theatres. The superstar’s previous three films – Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham, Aaraattu and Monster – didn’t make too much of a noise, but this could serve as a huge boon to Alone as it comes with limited expectations. Whether the movie manages to surprise fans, we will have to wait and see.
