JD Chakravarthy, who distanced himself from Telugu cinema in recent years, returned to his roots with a bang, thanks to his OTT debut Dayaa. The show, streaming on Disney+ Hotstar, is the Telugu adaptation of the Bangladeshi web series Taqdeer, co-written, directed by Pavan Sadineni. SVF, a popular production house for Bengali content, entered the Telugu market with the project.
Dayaa has received favourable reviews and broke several viewership records upon its digital premiere last weekend. The actor has extensively promoted the show in Telugu states giving up plum projects and the move has definitely paid rich dividends. After foraying into the Telugu digital space with the crime thriller, JD Chakravarthy will be returning to direction with a suspense thriller titled Who.
The Gulaabi star, besides writing the story, dialogues, editing the film, also plays the role of a cop in Who, paired opposite Shubha Raksha and Nithya. He will be dealing with a complex murder mystery, where he goes all out to catch the culprit. The thriller, which wrapped its shoot a long time ago, also completed its post-production formalities - dubbing, editing and other pre-release work recently.
The film’s trailer and a new poster was launched amidst the media and several dignitaries from the industry yesterday. While JD Chakravarthy was conspicuous by his absence, the likes of producers Prasanna Kumar, Achanta Gopinath, Sobha Rani, Kolli Ramakrishna, Vijay, actors Naga Mahesh, Balagam fame Sanjay, distributors Murali Krishna, Ramdev, Shankar graced the trailer launch.
Eeshwar will be making his debut as a music director with Who. Reddamma K Balaji is bankrolling the film under Sirish Nandhan Creations while M B Allikatti is the cinematographer. The producer, while congratulating JD Chakravarthy for the success of Dayaa, called Who an emotional thriller. The film was simultaneously shot in Telugu and Kannada.
