After Priyanka Sarkar, Rukmini Maitra too will play Noti Binodini on big screen

Rukmini Maitra has debuted in Bollywood opposite Vidyut Jamwal with Sanak. The film was released on Disney+Hotstar on October 15, 2021. Later, her Kishmish with Dev also impressed the box office in Tollywood. As per industry sources, the actress is gearing up for a period piece by Ram Kamal Mukherjee. If everything goes alright, she will be seen as the legendary stage actress of the 19th century Noti Binodini, who came to prominence under the mentorship of thespian Girish Ghosh. As per reports, Ram Kamal is scheduled to come to Kolkata in September and the film may go on the floors in October. Earlier, it was announced that Priyanka Sarkar will be playing Noti Binodini in Srijit Mukherji's Lawho Gouranger Naam Re.

As per media reports, Rukmini has been preparing herself for the character. She is taking dance classes. As per reports, the look set of the film is also done. Earlier, in an interview with Anandabazar, producer of the film Aritra Sen said that the plan of aking this period piece was incepted in 2019. However, it is due to the pandemic, everything got messed up. Both, the director and producer, wanted the pandemic to subside before the shooting. 

Ram Kamal is not the only director who has taken up a period piece about Noti Binodini and Girish Ghosh. Avijatrik-fame director Subhrajit Mitra has also announced making a period piece with Binodini and her mentor in the focal theme. Ishaa Saha was supposed to play Noti Binodini in his film. However, the status of that project is unclear as of now. Meanwhile, if all goes well, Srijit Mukherji will start filming Lawho Gouranger Naam Re in 2023. In the film, Priyanka Sarkar will play Noti Binodini, while Bratya Basu will play Girish Ghosh. It was announced in December last year when Srijit explained why finding a perfect actress for Noti Binodini was tricky. He said that there are inconsistencies in her photograph and documented age.
