When news broke that Kannada actor Tarak Ponnappa had a pivotal role in Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2: The Rule, he had said that he was excited about the project and was confident that it would work wonders for his career. Tarak was not wrong. The actor has another Telugu film in his kitty that he begins working on shortly.
Earlier today, it was revealed that Tarak has been roped in as the main antagonist in HIT actor Vishwak Sen’s latest directorial, Cult. Described as a new-age party thriller, the film is said to be based on a real incident. Produced by Karate Raju and Sandeep Kakarala under the banners of Tarak Cinemas and Vanmaye Creations, Cult is Vishwak’s third directorial after Falaknuma Das and Das Ka Dhamki .
In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Tarak, who was last seen in a negligible role in Puneeth Rajkumar’s last commercial film James , had rued that while his filmography included hits like the KGF saga and James, among others, his contribution to each of them has been minimal. He added that Kannada filmmakers often cast him only because of his physical attributes and rarely for his acting prowess, which was not the case in Telugu cinema.

Tarak first got to work with Jr NTR on Devara, which he followed up with Pushpa 2 and now has Cult. Interestingly, the actor had said that he began getting calls for auditions only after he included bits from a film called Gilky, in which he played a person with learning challenges, which his filmography of ‘hits’ could not get him. Incidentally, Tarak’s role as Buggi Reddy in Pushpa 2 was turned down by Salaar: Ceasefire actor Pramod, who was not enamoured about getting beaten up by Allu Arjun, besides other character traits.
