It looks like appreciation has been pouring in from all quarters for Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan. Director Shankar is the latest to share words of praise about the magnum opus. Taking to his social media page, Shankar stated that Ponniyin Selvan is a quality film that has come after ages. He wrote, "#PS1 Captivates. A quality Tamil historical film after years.#ManiRatnam Sir’s mastery in filmma’King’ proven yet again Hats off to @dop_ravivarman‘s Picturesque depiction @arrahman music-Riveting!Full 3hrs intrigues U for the sequel.Hail to the vast Army that made this epic! (sic)."
It was only yesterday that Jayam Ravi, who plays the Chola Prince Arulmozhi Varman in the film had revealed that Superstar Rajinikanth was all praise for the film and his words have added a whole new meaning to his life. Jayam Ravi had written on social media, "That 1 minute conversation made my day, my year and added a whole new meaning to my career. Thank you Thalaiva for your kind words & childlike enthusiasm. I’m overwhelmed, humbled & blessed to know you loved the movie & my performance @rajinikanth sir (sic)."
The film, which is an adaptation of Kalki's popular literary work, Ponniyin Selvan has Vikram as Chola Prince Aditha Karikalan, Trisha as Ilaiya Piratti Kundavai, Jayam Ravi Ravi as Arulmozhi Varman, Karthi as Vallavarayan Vanthiyathevan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as Nandini Devi. The plot revolves around the early days of Arulmozhi Varman, before his ascent to the throne. The film has an ensemble cast including Prakash Raj, Sarathkumar, Parthiban, Kishore, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Shobita Dhulipala, Rahman and Vikram Prabhu to name a few.
Music is by Isai Puyal AR Rahman and the songs have gone on to become chartbusters. The technical crew comprises Ravi Varman as the cinematographer, Sreekar Prasad as the editor and Thota Tharani as the art director. Ponniyin Selvan, which hit screens on September 30, has been jointly bankrolled by Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions.
