Fans seemed to have fallen in love with Brahmastra’s first track Kesariya, a beautiful love ballad sung by Arijit Singh which was released on Sunday in Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam . While fans had nothing but good things to say of Singh’s melodious vocals and Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt’s palpable chemistry, a part of the song’s lyrics did not sit well with netizens. Many netizens found the line ‘love storiyan’, in the song’s Hindi version, quite odd and did not shy away from making their displeasure known. Director Ayan Mukerji recently reacted to criticisms levied on the lyrics.

In a video on Reddit, obtained via The Quint, Mukerji is heard speaking of how the ‘love storiyan’ lyrics were something they had put in with a lot of love, to give an interesting twist to the whole song. The director rejected the comparison that the lyrics were like ‘elaichi in biryani’ and said that it was more along the lines of a little salt when the sugar is too overpowering.

“Because the film is a modern film, aur gaane ke bol itne traditional aur simple hain, this would’ve been a fun twist”, he said. The director added that he felt that in some time people would actually start to enjoy it even more.

Ranbir had also reacted to the criticisms of the lyrics as well during a promotional event for his film Shamshera. Saying that memes and trolling were just a part of life, the actor revealed that he loved that part of the song as well. Pritam Chakraborty had composed the song while Amitabh Bhattacharya had penned its lyrics.

In Brahmastra, Ranbir and Alia will share the screen with Nagarjuna, Mouni Roy and Amitabh Bachchan. The film is scheduled for release on September 9, in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.
