The beloved English comedy cult series Family Guy is finally getting a spin-off. A beloved character of the show – Stewie Griffin – gets a spin-off. Titled Stewie, the spin-off show has been greenlit for two seasons. Here’s everything we have learnt about it so far…
Family Guy spin-off Stewie greenlit for 2 seasons
One of the longest-running TV shows, which is also among people favourite, Family Guy, has now announced a spin-off series. Inspired from the Griffin family’s youngest yet smartest member Stewie Griffin, the series is titled Stewie. Deadline confirmed the news, while also revealing details about the project which will be helmed by Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane. “I have known Seth for more than two decades, worked with him on half a dozen projects, and I am hopeful this is the one where he finally learns my name,” Family Guy writer-producer Kirker Butler told the portal.
What will Stewie’s story be all about?
Stewie, aiming for 2027-2028 release will narrate the evil genius toddler’s time in preschool while also exploring time and space travel. While Family Guy’s Stewie attends Quahog Preschool and has an upper-class British accent, the spin-off is reportedly set in a new preschool with newer characters. Rupert and Brian, who Stewie holds close, are likely to be the only characters who will be reprised for the spin-off.
The show is aiming for Disney+ release, which is likely to mean JioHotstar streaming for Indian viewers. Currently, there are talks for nearly 15 episodes. Whether they release together or on a weekly basis remains uncertain at this point in time.
Interestingly, this is not the first from Family Guy that has a spin-off series. The Griffin neighbours Cleveland got their own spin-off. Titled The Cleveland Show, it had released in 2009 and opened to fair reviews. American Dad!, inspired by the other neighbour Steve Smith, released in 2005 and enjoys a successful since the time.
Of course, Family Guy (commenced in 1999) remains more loved than the spin-off. Given how Stewie enjoys his own fandom, it now remains to be seen if history can be rewritten.
