Devadarshini’s smart casting in The Family Man Season 2 worked wonders, in which she played a Tamil-speaking cop in Chennai. Beyond the well-written role, the actress made the most of the show’s reach and won applause from several critics and the fraternity alike for her performance. Expectedly, The Family Man 2 has opened new doors for the actress in Hindi cinema.
Her next Hindi release is Shabaash Mithu, the biopic of cricketer Mithali Raj, directed by Srijit Mukherjee. The trailer of the film, released earlier today, confirms that she plays the role of Mithali’s on-screen mother. This is another apt casting choice, given Mithali Raj is a Tamilian by birth and spent a major part of her life in Hyderabad.
Given that she is familiar with Tamil and Telugu audiences and the angle is equally relevant for the story of Mithali Raj, it’s certain that her presence would bring in more authenticity to Shabaash Mithu’s backdrop. Will the role tap into her comic potential yet again? We’ll have to wait for a few weeks (release on July 15) to confirm that.
In the trailer, we see Devadarshini enthusiastically listening to a cricket coach who expresses faith in Mithali’s potential. Later, she is seen cheering to a special knock by the cricketer. In 2022, the actress was seen in Suriya’s multlingual release Etharkkum Thunindhavan. Shabaash Mithu is her only release for the coming months at least.
Taapsee Pannu headlines this film written by Priya Aven and produced by Viacom18 Studios. Sirisha Ray is the cinematographer and Amit Trivedi is the composer.
