Japan has been a highly conducive market for Indian releases and the recent success of RRR proves just that. The S.S. Rajamouli earned itself a new lease of life when it released in Japan in October 2022 and a whole new legion of fans emerged from the country. Thanks to the publicity that the director and the two leading men, Jr. NTR and Ram Charan, participated in, the Telugu film went on to break records previously set by Indian releases like Muthu, Saaho and others. In Japan alone, RRR managed to register over 1 million footfalls and gross close to Rs. 100 crores during its theatrical run.

Leveraging this new-found fanbase, the makers of Rangasthalam have decided to re-release the film in Japan this monsoon season. The 2018 Telugu film, written and directed by Sukumar, is regarded as a pivotal moment in Ram Charan's career and one could its rustic setting and idiosyncrasies to charm the Japanese audience. To top things off, the actor, too, has widely grown in prominence during the recent Hollywood Awards tour and this factor could come in quite handy for the makers of Rangasthalam.

Sukumar's Rangasthalam will arrive at the Japanese box office on July 14, 2023. The film will reportedly be released by the entertainment company Space Box which has previously screened Indian films like Ponniyin Selvan 2, Ponniyin Selvan 1, Kantara, Waltair Veerayya, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, and several others in Japan.

Rangasthalam also stars Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Aadhi, Anasuya Bharadwaj, Jagapathi Babu and several others. Ram Charan's portrayal of Chittibabu, the congenial protagonist who carries the burden of partial hearing impairment, earned him a lot of accolades. Many critics reckoned that the film's unconventional period backdrop and Sukumar's distinct vision helped him hone his skills as an actor. Devi Sri Prasad's music, too, attracted a lot of praise.
