In theatres last week, The Song of Scorpions confirmed what we've known for the previous three years: Irrfan Khan's death in April 2020 has left an indelible mark on Indian cinema. Even though this was supposed to be the late actor's last film, it appears like we will get to see him work his magic again. Apno Se Bewafai, which has been shelved for four years, is finally getting its wide release on May 26.

Apno Se Bewafai, a family entertainer starring Irrfan, was scheduled to be released on April 2, 2020, according to director Prakash Bhalekar's interview with Mid-Day from that year. Unfortunately, the pandemic derailed his efforts. The film was finished in 2018 and received its censor certificate in 2019, but its theatrical release was delayed until after the pandemic ended, as explained by producer Piyush Shah. When things started looking up, people stopped going to the movies. It seemed prudent to hold off on the release until later. Almost 70% of viewers are now using over-the-top (OTT) services. The new date for the film's release is May 26.

Did the producers of the Khan and Mahima Chaudhary film not think about releasing it first on an OTT? The producer wants a theatrical release and then will decide on a streaming partner. They know people will show up to see our film. In his opinion, it's a well-made family entertainer.

Through Irrfan's character, who engages in an extramarital affair, the play examines the topic of adultery. Shah continues that Mahima plays a wealthy woman who attracts Irrfan. After making a bad decision, he feels regret but can't change the past. The film explores how his choices have affected his loved ones. He added that Irrfan was a fantastic man; he was really down to earth.

The late Bappi Lahiri composed the score for Apno Se Bewafai.
