After the standing ovation at IFFI, Ra Venkat's Kida bags yet another honour

​Director Ra Venkat's Kida has bagged yet another honour. The film has been adjudged as the Best Tamil Feature Film at the recently concluded 20th edition of the Chennai International film Festival. And that's not all. Veteran actor Poo Ramu, also received the award for Best actor (Posthumous) which was shared by Vijay Sethupathi for Maamanithan. Sai Pallavi received the best actress award for her performance in Gargi. Interestingly, both Kida and Gargi have one common factor- the presence of Kaali Venkat.

The plot of Kida revolves around the relationship between a grandfather, grandson and a goat, set in the backdrop of Deepavali day. A situation arises in the family where the grandfather has to sell his goat, which is unconditionally loved by his grandson. The film, which was screened at the Indian Panorama section of 53rd International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2022, received a standing ovation. After winning the award, Kida director Ra Venkat had stated that this was his maiden venture and that he considered it a very big recognition.

The Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Thakur's Office Twitter handle had shared the information. "Kida," a tamil film made by renowned senior telugu producer "Sravanthi" Ravikishore got a standing ovation at #IFFI53 (sic)." Interestingly, this is the first Tamil film from the Tollywood producer. This is Ravikishore's maiden venture in Tamil.

After bagging the award, Vijay Sethupathi stated that the beauty of a movie is that it can tell the story of a man who lived for 50 years, within a span of two and half hours.

In the meantime, Parthiban’s single shot non-linear film Iravin Nizhal bagged two honours — Special Jury Award and Best Cinematographer Award (for Arthur Wilson). While Antony BJ Ruben bagged the Best Audiographer award for Pa Ranjith’s Natchathiram Nagargiradhu, CS Prem Kumar won the Best Editor award for the split-screen film Beginning.
