With almost half of 2025 over, and Tamil cinema facing a major setback with only sporadic successes and largely disappointing shows, the latest to join is Thug Life. Even as scores of fans across India were waiting for the Nayakan reunion, the Kamal Haasan-Mani Ratnam film ended up as an underwhelming watch. Apart from Thug Life, films like Retro, Good Bad Ugly, and Vidaamuyarchi also did not make it to the successful category, even as some films like Tourist Family and Dragon made positive waves among the audience.
Now, it looks like fans are waiting for Kuberaa, starring Dhanush in the lead role, to release. Slated to hit theatres on June 20, the film is directed by Love Story filmmaker Sekhar Kammula and is a Tamil-Telugu project.
Kuberaa is the next big film to come from south. After Thug Life left the audience unimpressed and moreover dejected, movie lovers hope the dearth of good cinema will be fulfilled by the Dhanush starrer. The teaser of Kuberaa was recently released, leaving the audience intrigued about what the film could be about. But given it stars Dhanush, a powerhouse of talent and performance, huge expectations are on the film.
Besides the Thiruchitrambalam actor, Kuberaa also features Nagarajuna, Rashmika Mandanna and Jim Sarbh in important roles. The film’s theme appears to centre around money. Dhanush, who has already won National Film Award for Aadukalam and Asuran, has shown excellent acting from the glimpse of the film, prompting netizens that he will bag his third award for Kuberaa. Moreover, the postponement of Pawan Kalyan's Hari Hara Veera Mallu from June 12 gives extra advantage for Kuberaa.
The post-theatrical streaming rights of the film have been bagged by Prime Video. The music of Kuberaa is scored by Devi Sri Prasad. Directed by Sekhar Kammula, Kuberaa will have a multi-lingual release in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi and other languages. It was shot in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi. The film is shot by Niketh Bommi. The editor of the film is Karthika Srinivas. Kuberaa is produced by Suniel Narang and Puskur Ram Mohan Rao under Sri Venkateswara Cinemas LLP and Amigos Creations Pvt Ltd.
