Akhil Akkineni had pinned a lot of hope on the spy action thriller Agent to secure his maiden bona fide mega box office hit. Having opened his account with the 2021 film Most Eligible Bachelor, Akhil and his fans felt quite assured ahead of the release of Agent that the film would yield great results and further propel the actor's career. However, due to a lacklustre script and an over-the-top approach on director Surender Reddy's part, the film ended up a box office bomb that disappointingly failed to live up to the massive hype.

Agent's producer Anil Sunkara would acknowledge the film's commercial failure and allude to the lack of preparation at the scripting level as one of the main contributing factors. The film is set to premiere on OTT (May 19, 2023) within a month of its release to enunciate just how underwhelming its theatrical run has been.

And to address the same and also express his gratitude towards the fans for their unmitigated support, Akhil Akkineni has penned an endearing note which he shared via his social media handles. He would thank his fans primarily but also acknowledge the support lent by the producers, the distributors and the media associated with Agent: "I will come back stronger for all those who believe in me," wrote Akhil in his note, after having confessed that the film, unfortunately, could not deliver on the intended promise.

The reactions to the post were largely positive, albeit with a good dosage of criticism. Several comments appreciated the young actor for his honesty and assured him that success was only around the corner, while a few questioned his decision to start shooting without a bound script.

"Highest Tax Paying Actor of India as of today Akshay Kumar took 14 movies to deliver his first Hit... Don't give up champ your hardwork will surely pay off much love," wrote one user. Another user said, "It’s just #Agent film failed, not you! We believe that you’re there to hit back harder soon with your next. We all are there for you! Comeback stronger". And while a majority of the comments did support Akhil and wished him luck, a few pointed out that he must be careful while choosing projects and that going on floors without a bound script is never a wise idea.

"You went in without a bound script, blindly trusting Director and perhaps Producer. Why? That was a gamble and you also know that. You are NOT an established star hero who would command decent openings irrespective of “talk”. So be it but then you need to be careful while choosing Projects. Better luck next time," wrote one user.

"Lol bounded script lekunda enduk vellar ra sets meedaki," (Why would go on sets without a bound script) inquired another Twitter user.

Agent also stars the legendary Mammootty, Dino Morea, Sakshi Vaidya, Denzil Smith, Sampath Raj, Murali Sharma, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar and others. Hiphop Tamizha and Bheems Ceciroleo (one song) have scored the music.
