Agent, which released in April this year, has had several supposed OTT debut dates, which got pushed ahead each time. This one, seems concrete
After many attempts to get Akhil Akkineni’s box office debacle Agent to OTT, digital streaming partner Sony LIV announced a new date today. The Surender Reddy-directed spy thriller, which also starred Malayalam superstar Mammootty in a pivotal role, came to theatres on April 28, and since May, there have been reports about the film’s imminent OTT debut. Each time, though, it got pushed ahead and for the longest time, there was no update at all and Agent seemed all but forgotten. Turns out, it is still on Sony LIV’s radar and the platform is bringing it to audiences in Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi on September 29. “The wait is over! Brace yourself for the wild adrenaline rush! The Agent starring Mammotty and Akhil Akkineni will be streaming on Sony LIV from 29th Sept,” read the official announcement from the platform.
Agent is a film that Akhil spent a good three years on and had pinned massive hopes on it. But in the absence of a bound script to go by, a mishmash of a product was put together that tanked miserably at the box office. In fact, the film’s theatrical collections were so bad that it was removed from screens within days. Stating that the film did not translate the way the team intended to, Akhil penned a note to his fans about the fate of Agent, which read, “To my dearest fans and all my well wishers, I want to sincerely thank the cast and crew of Agent who dedicated their lives to see our film come to life. While we tried our level best, the film unfortunately didn't translate the way we wished it would on the screen and we could not deliver a good film for you. A special thanks to my producer Anil garu who was my biggest support system. Thank you to all the distributors who believed in our film and also the media who supported us immensely. The love and energy you all give me is the reason I work and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for that. I will come back stronger for all those who believe in me.”
