Agent Phil Coulson to make his return to MCU with What if…?

Clark Gregg has been confirmed to return as Agent Phil Coulson in Marvel’s new series What if..?. The full voice cast for the MCU’s maiden animated show was revealed recently, according to Collider.

Clark had teased fans of his character’s presence on What if…? by posting the trailer for the upcoming animated series on his Facebook page. In the caption, he had mentioned ‘you never know who might show up.’

Gregg’s presence on the show was confirmed when the full voice cast of the series was revealed. In addition to him, several other characters are also voiced by their original actors in the Marvel films, including Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner and Paul Rudd as Ant-Man among others.

Agent Phil Coulson made his first appearance in Iron Man in a supporting role as a S.H.I.E.L.D agent. Since then the character has become an important part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In addition to making appearances as a part of the supporting cast in movies such as The Avengers, Iron Man 2, Thor and Captain Marvel, Coulson has also starred in the television series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which ran for seven seasons. In addition to his onscreen presence, Agent Coulson has also been featured in Marvel comics.

Marvel’s upcoming animated series What if…? explores the story of what would happen if many crucial events in the MCU played out differently than they did. The series was created by A.C Bradley and is based on Marvel comics. It will premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on August 11, 2021.
