There’s a lot riding on Agent; it’s a high-stakes film for which Akhil Akkineni has gone all out, mentally and physically, to play his part to perfection. After a disappointing Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, the film is equally crucial for its director Surender Reddy. Sakshi Vaidya and Dino Morea make their Telugu debut with the thriller that also stars Sampath. The trailer was unveiled in Kakinada yesterday.
The premise of the spy thriller is fairly straightforward - a young spy, who’s committed to serve the nation, is on a mission to save the world from a crooked underworld baron. Mammootty is cast as the latter’s superior. How far will the ‘agent’ go to fulfil his duties? Of course, there’s a romance angle, but duty comes first for the youngster and he’s in for a wild ride.
There were huge expectations surrounding the trailer, given the hyperboles the makers have used through the promotions. Netizens have unanimously hailed the scale at which the film has been made and credited its slick visuals. Those who’ve not liked it much are pinning their hopes on Surender Reddy’s past record to deliver the goods.
The trailer reveals very little about the twists and turns in the plot and it’s largely set amidst international locations. The references to ‘adavi’, ‘ puli’ and ‘veta’ by are quite jarring and the caricaturish portrayal of Dino Morea makes us wonder if the antagonist will get any real scope to prove his worth. Will the female lead be reduced to a bimbette again? We hope we’re proved wrong.
The trailer has gone past the 5 million mark on Youtube already. Produced by Ramabrahmam Sunkara under AK Entertainments, the film has music by Hiphop Tamizha. Rasool Ellore cranks the camera and Navin Nooli is the editor. Avinash Kolla is the art director for the film which has stunts by Vijay Master and Stun Shiva. Agent will release in theatres worldwide on April 28.
