Election, the upcoming Tamil film, starring actor-filmmaker Vijay Kumar in the lead role, is set to release on May 17. The film is directed by Thamizh in his second directorial after he made the critically acclaimed film Seththumaan.
Election promises to be a political drama that centres around local body polls. While we await the release of Election, it is a good time to revisit the hard-hitting Seththumaan which is available for streaming on SonyLIV and OTTplay Premium.
Seththumaan is a poignant drama that talks about the food politics that is very much part of the caste oppression, which is persistent in Tamil Nadu and India. The film follows the life of a basket-weaver who wishes that his grandson has a better life. One day he is employed by a few caste Hindus to cook pork, a meat that is usually frowned upon and seen as an inferior dish. The rest of the film follows the drama that ensues in the process of cooking.
