Could Gangs of Godavari's OTT release offer some relief to its disastrous box-office run?

Gangs of Godavari was one of the most awaited films in Telugu cinema for the year 2024. But sadly, it flopped at the box office and is all set to stream on Netflix from June 14, 2024. Vishwak Sen and Neha Sshetty played the main leads in this film, which was directed by Krishna Chaitanya.

Naga Vamsi of Sithara Entertainments, bankrolled this film, which will be out in just two weeks of its release on OTT. As the makers promoted the film on an aggressive note, the first weekend collections were great. The sad part is that Gangs of Godavari was playing in close to 50 theaters the day the OTT release date was announced.

But now, the film is done with its run and has made a total share of Rs 10.2 crore worldwide. These are impressive collections for a movie featuring Vishwak Sen, considering his market. But as the makers spent a bomb on the film, Gangs of Godavari is considered a box office failure.

But the makers have made good money as they sold the post-release rights to the film for decent prices. So, Gangs of Godavari might be a flop at the box office but the makers ended in a profit zone. Vishwak Sen was seen as a man from the Godavari region who became an MLA and faced revolts from his own men.

Krishna Chaitanya is the director, and he showcased the film on a very dull note in the second half and this is where Gangs of Godavari disappointed one and all. Gangs of Godavari's OTT release date has become a hot topic of discussion as such big films coming out on OTT in just two weeks of their release will surely kill the theatrical business in India.

Several comments were posted on social media stating that it is the producers who agree to early OTT releases of their flop films to make more money. The same has happened with Gangs of Godavari as well. We need to see how this film fares on OTT when it streams on Netflix from June 14, 2024.
