The latest Malayalam movie, Manjummel Boys, continues to create new box office milestones even as it is expected to make its streaming debut soon. The film is on the verge of breaching $2 million at the USA box office.
There are only a handful of movies that have managed to sell $2 million worth of tickets in the USA, traditionally a bastion for Telugu movies. Manjummel Boys seems to be benefiting from the good reviews and excellent word of mouth it generated in the Telugu states recently.

The Telugu version of Manjummel Boys was released in cinemas earlier this month and has struck a chord with audiences. It is the second Malayalam film in the last two months to receive such a rousing reception from the Telugu audience. Earlier, Premalu became the highest-grossing Telugu dubbed Malayalam film.
It remains to be seen whether Manjummel Boys can recreate the success of Premalu with Telugu audiences. However, the film is surely reaping benefits in the USA. It appears that the Telugu version of Manjummel Boys is driving ticket sales in the USA.
"#ManjummelBoys mania continues in the USA. Racing towards $2 million (Telugu & Malayalam). More locations are added for the Telugu version from today on demand, and prime shows are already selling out," tweeted BA Raju's Team.
Manjummel Boys has become the biggest-ever hit in the history of Malayalam cinema. Made on a modest budget, the film opened in cinemas last month without much fanfare. However, thanks to strong word of mouth, the film took the box office by storm and surprisingly gave a much-needed break to cinemas in Tamil Nadu, which was going through a dry spell.
According to reports, Manjummel Boys has earned more than Rs 220 crore from its worldwide ticket sales. The filmmakers have decided to delay its OTT release to give a winning chance to the Telugu version at the box office.
The film is expected to start streaming on Disney+Hotstar in the first week of May.
