Mary Elizabeth Winstead is gearing up to become a part of one of the biggest science fiction franchises in the world, Star Wars, with her next project. The actress is on board for the upcoming Disney+ series Ahsoka.
According to a report in The Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming live-action series has got Dave Filoni as a writer and executive producer. Filoni has extensively worked on television shows set in the Star Wars universe. Some of them include The Mandalorian, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, Star Wars Forces of Destiny, Star Wars Resistance, and Star Wars: The Bad Batch. Jon Favreau will also executive produce Ahsoka.
The upcoming series is a spin-off of another Disney+ series, The Mandalorian, which starred Pedro Pascal as the titular protagonist. The upcoming series is based on Ahsoka Tano, a former Jedi Padawan. She made her live-action debut in The Mandalorian’s second season and was portrayed by Rosario Dawson.
Dawson will reprise her role in the spin-off series as well. The character first made her onscreen appearance in 2008’s The Clone Wars.
Ahsoka will also feature the return of Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker. The actor who portrayed the character in the prequel films that came after the original three Star Wars films was
Additional cast members in the upcoming series are Ivanna Sakhno and Natasha Liu Bordizzo.
Ahsoka is set in a period five years after the events of Return of the Jedi (1983), the sixth film in the Skywalker saga. Further plot details are being kept under wraps. Production on the show is expected to start sometime this year. A release date for the show has also yet to be announced.
