Director B Unnikrishnan seems to be on a mission to mount his next project on a much bigger scale than Mohanlal’s Aaraattu. The upcoming movie, which has Mammootty in the lead, will have three actresses – Aishwarya Lekshmi, Amala Paul and Sneha, as per reports.

When OTTplay had reached out to a source close to the team’s production, the source said, “The actresses have been approached, but Mammootty will take the final call. The cast will be officially announced soon.”

Earlier, there were reports that Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon has been roped in to play a pivotal role in the movie. However, Unnikrishnan denied the rumour. If Aishwarya and Amala are indeed part of the film, it will be their first film with Mammootty. Sneha had previously worked with the megastar in a few films including Thuruppugulan and The Great Father.

Reports suggest that the movie is set to go on floors on July 15, with Mammootty expected to join the team on July 18. In an earlier interview, Unnikrishnan had told us that the movie will be a new-age entertainer that will also have elements that would appeal to Mammootty’s fans; however, it wouldn’t be an all-out ‘mass’ entertainer as Aaraattu.

In fact, the film’s scriptwriter Udaykrishna and Unnikrishnan had first approached Mohanlal with the film’s subject during the first lockdown. But considering that the movie had locations outside the State, Mohanlal had suggested that they pick another subject to due once the lockdown restrictions were eased in mid of 2020. That’s how the duo went ahead with Aaraattu and approached Mammootty with the upcoming film.

Meanwhile, Mammootty has completed shooting for Nisam Basheer’s thriller Rorschach, which is currently in its post-production stage. The movie is expected to be an Onam release on September 7, which also happens to be Mammootty’s birthday. The megastar’s previous release was Puzhu, which is currently streaming on Sony LIV.
